Unit 1: Citizen Kane

A theme in the movie is that you could have all the money and power in the world but that doesn't mean you will be happy. I think this is important because throughout the movie Kane seems to be fairly pleased with what he does and you never think about his lost childhood. But when he dies and says rosebud you remember that in the beginning he missed out on his childhood and you realize that he was never really happy. Also i think that's why he never really loved anyone. He never had real parents, or anyone for that matter, to love him so he simply didn't understand how to love.
The film techniques in this movie for the most part were revolutionary for the time period. Orson Welles and Citizen Kane are most famous for the use of deep focus. Welles uses deep focus when Kane is being signed away to Mr. Thatcher and he wants to show u not only that the papers are being singed but that Kane is playing in the snow.
